I’m looking forward to hanging out with you again, soon!
Hi, I’m glad you’re here!
It recently occurred to me when I switched to this newsletter format that I’m not greeting anyone at the door any more. So, hi, hello, welcome and thanks for continuing to allow me in your inbox every few months. I appreciate your support and I’d like you to know that I love hearing from you, too, especially if it’s been a while.
It has been a while since I was last in New York. 2022 seems like it was half a lifetime ago, but that’s only true if you’re a six year old. If you are a six year old, I commend your reading comprehension, it’s better than many adults but please hand the device you’re holding back to your parent or guardian.
It is with tremendous pleasure that I invite you to Group Chat, a solo exhibition at Theodore’s temporary space at 373 Broadway, 2nd floor. The exhibition opening will be on Friday December 12 from 6-8 and I am looking forward to seeing you there!
Brave, brave Stephanie Theodore, owner and operator of Theodore, a gallery I’ve been working with for over 10 years, has yet again invited me to do whatever I want. This time around we’ll be in a temporary, second floor space in the same Tribeca building she’s run the gallery from for the past five years. This past summer I finished a series of 22 heads I had been working on for at least two years. Working slowly, layering and sanding, painting, layering and sanding some more, then drilling, sawing and cutting features followed by several more rounds of layering and sanding is generally how these came to exist. The top coat, as you can see in images of the final work above, is what I call “the landlord special.” The paint puckering technique used on the walls of every apartment I ever lived in, and some ceilings too, employed to hide any defects. | ![]() studio progress this summer |
I also made a small 40 page catalog of the series. The catalog is available directly from me. Payment will be on a sliding scale from $25 to $40 (shipping included). Sales will help fund the making of the book, profits will fund exhibition shipping, packing, delivery and the trip to NY for the opening. Think of it as a small donation with a reward for you, because that’s exactly what it is. Reply “Group Chat” or Venmo me directly @Chris_Moss_Studio - don’t forget to tell me your address!
In other news…
Yoink at Thompson, Savannah | Yoink at Thompson Savannah continues through the end of this year! If you find yourself in Savannah momentarily and would really like a drink and a view of the city stop by Thompson Savannah. Go straight to the elevator bay, up to the top floor, have a cocktail and an appetizer at Bar Julien, take a peek over their balcony at our beautiful city and the river that runs through it, then head back down to the lobby to check out my work (you can get a refill at the ground floor bar, too. Why even visit Savannah it you’re not going to drink a little too much?) |
The Feels at High Point University with Kelly Boehmer, Susan Klein and I continues through December 6. You can have a peak at installation shots on the Sechrest Gallery website. | ![]() The Feels, Kelly Boehmer, Susan Klein and Chris Moss in the Sechrest Gallery at High Point University, High Point, North Carolina |
And finally, if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to do some good in this world and expand your art collection Postcards from the Edge, The Visual Aids annual fundraiser at Barry Campbell Gallery in January is a great way to do it. You can expect to find my work on the walls at this blind auction. Artists, the invitation is wide open, and I gotta say every artist I know in NY and beyond make a point to donate a small post card sized work to this great cause.
Alright, that’s all for now, I’ll be in touch shortly with installation shots from NY, and news of a February group show in Tennessee! Oh, if you are new to this mailing list and wondering how you got here, you either own an artwork of mine or you are part of a newsletter exchange. Either way you’re free to opt out any time, I too, get too much email and have to put some folks on shush.
Send this email to a friend you think might like my work, if you don’t mind. Tell me about it and I’ll send you a hand made postcard too.
Did someone send this to you? Sign up for more.
